Two more goals for Blackpool today.
What a blunder we made letting him go.

Yep...but then again, we have a really good team at the moment. I'm sure the goals will come.

To be honest I think most of us Blues fans thought it'd be right to let him go and continue his career elsewhere...we were in a situation.

I believe in King we have a proper goalscorer just like Phillips. But until he's fit people will see Phillips scoring a worry. But don't be. Were doing well even with our best Strikers out. When they get fit we'll fly up the table. KRO!!!!

If I had a £1 for every goal scored by those after they left BCFC id be rich. Fact is one goal scored for us is worth a million after they go. I wish super Kev well. He was a great servant and despite all the games he was left wasted on the bench he never, as far as I recall, opened his gob and moaned about it. A true professional.
Get used to those leavers scoring for others but lets not dwell on it - its our players we need to be looking at and Kevs gone. End of. KRO.

Yes he was a high earner... Blackpool in the Premier were the lowest paid; reputed to be a maximum of £15k. Surely in the Championship they pay even less ? ... and yet we could not offer Phillips a 12 month deal that would compete with them?
He is probably the best finisher we ever had, and ( playing in an attacking team ) will be one of the top scorers in the Championship this season.

I agree that KP could still do a job as a goal scorer - certainly in theChampionship.

I reckon you're right that we could have offered the same money as Blackpool offered and he would have staed - I would have welcomed it.

Unfortunately, we didn't and he didn't.

Let's just hope that we manage to actually get a fit striker soon eh?

BTW - do you think that CJ and Big Ziggy might not be as injured as we're led to believe and it's just a clever ploy to make sure that no one bids for them in the next 2 weeks or so? :ph43r:

Only one slight problem with that, well actually that's incorrect there are 20,000 per week reasons why wether Mcliesh wanted him to stay or not Phillips just like Gardner,Ferguson and Foster would have been moved out of the club.

KP was on £25k per week whilst we were in the PL.
I don't know if he had a relagation clause.
The reason he left was not about money.
The reason he left was that the Mutant Ginja Turncoat couldn't guarantee him any game time :o

There no way Phillips would have stayed under McLeish. He was clearly unhappy with lack of games under McLeish. So even even if Eck wanted to keep him I don't think Phillips would have wanted to stay. KRO!!!!

Most probably, and why? Because CH would have played him. McIneptness only wanted run, run, run and chasing back, not a goalscorer. That is why he is such an inept boring git. Oh and it was McTwicerelegation who let KP go.

As i understand it and i only have what was reported in the press to go on.

Is that Blues decided that they would not offer Phillips a new contract.
now the important bit is "Blues" decided not McLiesh not Pannu but jointly they agreed to let him go. In fact I think King was deemed to be a better use of the money avaliable for wages.

So wether Phillips would have wanted to stay or not is irrelevant he was never gong to be offered a contract.

I agree Willie - it was probably a calculated risk to say that King was a better use of the wages.

I'm sure that is the case - but I know where my "First goal scorer" money is going when we play them :(

Blimey mate - have you ever been to the Pleasure Beach up there- or stayed in one of their B&B's?

Can't say I'd fancy a cold wet winter in Blackpool with thousands of drunk Glaswegians!

I know there are pros and cons of keeping philips including his ability and his wages. My opinion looks to moving the club forward and bringing on young players who could evolve into very good players for years to come.

They may not have the experience or even have their abilities fully developed but they will be hungry and willing to put in their all and who knows we may even find a star in the making.

I say let bygones be bygones and build on what we now have and look to the future, rather what might have been if we hadn't been relegated.
